ATMs & Baristas
Interviewer: Katie Laird, Esther Steinfeld | Guest: The BusinessMakers | Episode: 064 | Date: October 20, 2010
Katie and Esther have lots of news. Katie got scammed (skimmed) at an ATM. You need to hear this, but you’re not going to like it. Starbucks barristas are not happy with a new store policy. How much is a Facebook post worth? More than Twitter? You’d be surprised. And we have a new CEOs Say the Darndest Things. (“Love isn’t gonna sell product.”)
Chloe Dao, Designer
Interviewer: Katie Laird, Esther Steinfeld, Russ Capper | Guest: Chloe Dao | Episode: 064 | Date: October 20, 2010
In honor of Houston’s Fashion Week, we’ve got the fabulous Chloe Dao, Project Runway winner, owner of apparel boutique LOT 8, QVC retailer, and entrepreneur extraordinaire. Russ visits with an in-demand designer who is building a fashion empire. Chloe’s parents wanted her to be a doctor or lawyer, but passion won the day and Chloe hasn’t looked back. (“I woke up that morning, made a dress and tried out like everybody.”)
Can a woman run a startup?
Interviewer: Katie Laird, Esther Steinfeld | Guest: The BusinessMakers | Episode: 064 | Date: October 20, 2010
And from the department of “Thought-provoking Fodder:” Katie and Esther are all over Penelope Trunk, the Brazen Careerist. Can a woman run a startup? (Do they really want to?) As a blogger, Penelope may be a successful entrepreneur, but she frequently makes broad generalizations and some of the things she says are way out there. Is it link bait? She may be brilliant, but speaking on behalf of all women is, well, the OT girls aren’t having it. (“It’s very inflammatory and I’m not quite sure that has any correlation.”)

The Inside Scoop
Interviewer: Esther Steinfeld | Guest: Allison Bagley | Episode: 063 | Date: October 13, 2010
Esther is on her own while Katie is off, well, probably partying. Esther interviews Allison Bagley, managing editor of online magazine Houston Tidbits, which now publishes in four cities. It’s a chick thing that seeks out the new, the local and the clever, then sends out special offers and content. It gives a gal the skinny on must-haves, must-sees and must-dos around town. (“Everyone is trying to get their foot in the online marketplace and I’d be lying if I said it didn’t make me nervous!”)
Keeping Up with Fashion
Interviewer: Esther Steinfeld | Guest: Sherry Levy | Episode: 063 | Date: October 13, 2010
Esther is having a ball at a summer soiree thrown by Dimensions, a chic boutique. Owner Sherry Levy chats about staying in touch with her client base and keeping current in the world of apparel; even bricks and mortar retailers have to focus on their Internet presence. The Internet has opened a door to a younger customer base, says Levy. (“You have to prove yourself every single season. That’s the hardcore difficulty of retail today.”)

The IRS is going totally digital—do you submit your tax return online? How are you gonna get that refund? We got big news and big money happening at Groupon. American Apparel’s CEO is dissin’ Hipsters; can he DO that?! (“It’s like, just letting loose and sweating!”)
