Blogging & Bicycles
Katie Laird and Esther Steinfeld present the show full of balance and business doing good—or at least trying to! In the news this week: Forbes Magazine is under attack from bloggers. A hotel in Copenhagen is trading food for power in a creative ploy of eco-marketing. What is happening between Target and VISA? Lance Armstrong has done a lot more than beat cancer and win the Tour de France; he’s the ultimate entrepreneur! (“It’s a little too Big Brother.”)
The Power to Decide
Amy Robinson has a Michelangelo quote on her website: “The greater danger for most of us is not that our aim is too high and we miss it, but that it is too low and we reach it.” Katie interviews a life balance coach extraordinaire who looks at life from a different angle. She defines “balance,” espouses the importance of “purpose,” and she offers powerful advice to defining, and getting, what you want. (“Entrepreneurs wrestle with prioritizing.”)
“Cause” Marketing
Katie and Esther consider companies promoting incongruous causes. For example, KFC has partnered with Susan G. Komen to support breast cancer research. Sometimes the match between the supporter and the charity can be, well, unfortunate. Should that discredit their charitable efforts? Another issue: green washing. And, WOW, what is up with Pepsi?! (“It is wildly disturbing. I thought it was an April Fool’s prank.”)
