Video and Full Interview Text

Karen: Hello. This is PKF Texas Entrepreneur's Playbook. I'm Karen Love, host and co-founder. Today I'm here with Scott Soles, an audit director at PKF Texas. And I'd like to welcome you to the Playbook, Scott.

Scott: Thanks for having me here.

Karen: Well, you know, I'm really excited that we're talking to you today, because you are a valued CPA at PKF Texas. But what I'd like to do is investigate the other things that you do that a company would not realize really ask for a particular set of schools that you have to help their business grow. Can you give me a little bit about that?

Scott: Okay, great. Yeah, I mean enterprise risk management is huge these days. It's something that's been around for a long, long time in many forms, but the moniker of ERM and enterprise risk management, enterprise risk assessment, which the assessment part is kind of the core of that exercise; it's a kind of a global spherical look at the organization taken as a whole and sort of a process that people use to get a lot of collaborative and concentric thinking, sometimes divergent thinking, which is a really good thing.

Karen: I like that.

Scott: Disassemble the organization, reassemble the organization. But it's just sort of a process of the organization getting a handle around what's important for them and why they do certain things.

Karen: So it builds on your CPA designation and then it takes their thinking beyond just the financials.

Scott: Well, it's not automatic for people to think of CPAs as enterprise risk management people, although it's getting to be known more that way. The CPA designation is something that I'm proud of; it's the one thing that I can say I've been for a long, long time, because it's registered with the state; that's true.

Karen: I love that.

Scott: I mean for the most part I'm a business professional with a lot of international experience across a lot of areas, so it just helps to be able to have that conversation.

Karen: Well, thank you, Scott. And what I'd like to do is ask you to come back and expand upon what you've done with some of the niche practice areas and other industries and things of that nature. Would that be good?

Scott: You bet. Be great.

Karen: We look forward to having you.

Scott: Thanks.

Karen: Thank you. Well this has been another Thought Leader production brought to you by PKF Texas Entrepreneur's Playbook. Tune in next week for another chapter.
