They create the REAL jobs and we LOVE them! Includes: Our Quote of the Week—an observation from American author James Branch Cabell; This Week in Business History includes such innovation as the Thermos Bottle (in 1842!), fluorescent lights and the merger of MCI and WorldCom; and the Jargon Challenge Round—trendy technospeak you should know.
Rafael Alvarez, founder and CEO of Genesys Works, returns to The BusinessMakers Show with updates for his innovative nonprofit. This man is as inspirational as he is clever. Genesys Works trains economically disadvantaged high school students, gets them paid internships and then provides college admissions guidance, in effect changing the trajectory of their lives. He believes he is breaking the low-earning/underachieving cycle of the inner city by exposing kids to the economic mainstream and jobs they never dreamed possible. Since his BusinessMakers appearance in 2010, he has continued his expansion to other cities, still pushing the envelope and involving more kids and sponsor corporations in his life-changing operation.
Sheryl Rapp loved TED Talks and wanted to bring the experience to Houston. Laura Max discusses The UP Experience with its co-founder.
Analytics are everything. How do you know which data are critical? Robin Tooms interviews Daniel Cotlar, chief marketing officer at Blinds.com.
Could you seize the moment? Leisa Holland-Nelson gets inspiring words from Mary Bottie, former Motorola executive currently serving on the board of Flexsteel Industries Inc.
How important is photography to your website? Karen Love continues the discussion with Laura Max Nelson, project manager for Content Active.
