Video and Full Interview Text

Leisa: Hello. I'm Leisa Holland-Nelson, and welcome to another edition of Women Mean Business where we're going to take you up close and personal with extraordinary women doing extraordinary things. My guest today is Jessica Givens, founder and president of All-in-One Academics. Welcome, Jessica.

Jessica: Thank you so much, Leisa. Thank you for having me.

Leisa: Tell us about All-in-One Academics.

Jessica: All-in-One Academics is a comprehensive tutoring and admissions company based in Houston. Our mission is to help students discover their passions and launch themselves into successful paths, whether it's a two year path or a four year path or just picking a good summer program.

Leisa: So how do you help them do that?

Jessica: Well, what we do is we sit down and we take a look at where they've been and talk to them about where they want to be next, and we say, "Okay. Are you interested in health care? What have you done that shows that you're interested in health care?" And then we start helping them pick activities that will demonstrate their interest and then we actually work with them on their applications to college, which will ideally launch them into their actual professional career.

Leisa: So you tutor and you help them apply for college? So your sort of a mix of a tutor, counselor, Princeton review?

Jessica: That's right. We are sort of the one stop shop for whatever it is people need. So when we meet up with a student, for instance, in eighth grade, I will sit down and work with the student on all of his academic subjects, but I also start at that point strategizing about the next step. And we will actually look at, for instance, congressional awards, help them figure out how they can position themselves to earn prestigious honors and then also help them later with their college applications, their test preparation, everything, and they know that we have their best interest at heart from start to finish. And they even come back for graduate school applications, believe it or not.

Leisa: I wish I knew you when.

Jessica: Well, I know. It's -

Leisa: Thank you. Thank you. There you have it. Another extraordinary woman doing extraordinary things. I'm Leisa Holland-Nelson, president and co-founder of ContentActive, Houston's leading web and mobile technology company. You can find me at ContentActive or follow me on Twitter at LHNelson. We'll be back again next week with another edition of Women Mean Business.
