Video and Full Interview Text

Leisa: Hello. I'm Leisa Holland-Nelson, and welcome to another edition of Women Mean Business, where we're going to take you up close and personal with extraordinary women doing extraordinary things. My guest today is Donna Mittendorf, market manager and senior vice president for Comerica here in Houston. Donna, that's a big job; how did you get it?

Donna: Gosh, Leisa, at 17 years old when I graduated from high school, I got married; I never intended for any of this to happen. I found myself alone with two children at 22. I went to school for 11 years at night. I took jobs in a bank as a loan secretary in a note department. I was fortunate, I went into a credit-training program; I became an analyst. After that, I became a loan officer; I went into management. And it led me here to point where in 2004; I was actually recruited by Comerica to build a business-banking group here in Houston.

Leisa: That sounds like one promotion after another. What do attribute all these promotions to?

Donna: Perseverance; Perseverance for college for many years at night, perseverance for MBA, and perseverance to move from one step to another.

Leisa: Was that your last promotion?

Donna: Well, I thought it was, but this past summer when Comerica acquired Sterling Bancshares, I was promoted again. So who knows?

Leisa: Wow. There you have it, another extraordinary woman doing extraordinary things. I'm Lisa Holland-Nelson, president and co-founder of ContentActive, Houston's leading Web and mobile technology company. You can find me at ContentActive dot-com or follow me on Twitter at LHNelson. We will be back again next week with another addition of Women Mean Business.
