Video and Full Interview Text

Leisa: Hello, I'm Leisa Holland-Nelson, and welcome to another edition of Women Mean Business, where we're going to take you up close and personal with extraordinary women doing extraordinary things. My guest today is Lisa Roth, Principal and Co-Founder of Montgomery Roth Architects and Interior Design, one of Houston's 100 Fastest Growing Businesses. Lisa, architecture and interior design, tell me how you decided to go down that path.

Lisa: That's a great question. I actually had intended to become a lawyer and worked in a law firm in my freshman and sophomore years of college, and realized pretty quickly that I did not want to be a lawyer, I really wanted a more creative venue. So architecture and interior design allowed me to have the passion and the creativity in my business, but it also gave me a business that I could run and call my own.

Leisa: But it wasn't easy. What kind of schooling did you have to go through?

Lisa: True, it was not an easy path. My undergraduate degree is in interior design and business, and that came from LSU. And then I went to architecture grad school at Tulane University, which is a 3.5-year grad program. And then from there both the architecture and interior design licenses require you to work as an intern for three to four years. So once you finish school and then do your internship then you can take the exams and become licensed and registered.

Leisa: Quite the path. There you have it, another extraordinary woman doing extraordinary things. I'm Leisa Holland-Nelson, President and Co-Founder of Content Active, Houston's leading Web and mobile technology company, driving innovation every day. You can find me at ContentActive.com or follow me on Twitter @LHNelson. We'll be back again next week with another edition of Women Mean Business.
