Video and Full Interview Text

Leisa: Hello. I'm Leisa Holland-Nelson and welcome to another edition of Women Mean Business where we're going to take you up close and personal with extraordinary women doing extraordinary things. My guest today is Jacqueline Northcut, CEO of Bio Houston, one of our non-profit organizations here in Houston who is actually facilitating the technology transfer between research institutions and product companies, bringing products to consumers. I know I've said a lot, but I'd love to know how you got to this position. Do you have a degree in science, engineering?

Jacqueline: No, Leisa, actually I don't. My degree is in accounting and I came here many, many years ago and took a job at Arthur Andersen, had planned to stay there a couple years, wound up staying close to 20, was a partner, had a real high emphasis on initial public offerings, IPOs, mergers and acquisitions. Many people called me a deal junkie or an adrenalin junkie, but the common thread in my practice were emerging high growth businesses. Ya' know those businesses that have a hockey stick for a business plan?

Leisa: Mm-hmm.

Jacqueline: And just really enjoyed helping and assisting my clients.

Leisa: So how did you get to Bio Houston?

Jacqueline: Well, I guess you might say I came a little bit kicking and screaming, but the national headhunting firm that was trying to recruit me convinced me to spend a little bit of time talking to Dr. John Mendelsohn who's the immediate past president of MV Andersen and it was his passion that convinced me that together we could make something happen here.

Leisa: Good job Dr. Mendelsohn. There ya' have it. Another extraordinary woman doing extraordinary things. I'm Leisa Holland-Nelson, President and Chief Marketing Officer of Content Active, Houston's leading web and mobile technology company. You can find me at ContentActive.com or follow me on Twitter @lhnelson. We'll be back again next week with another edition of Women Mean Business.
