School of Business 11/06/10
Russ and John present the show about the private sector, the working class, the innovators who most positively affect our lives. Includes: the BusinessMakers Quote of the Week—a clever comment from British economist John Maynard Keynes; This Week in Business History includes—incredibly—the inventor of the first thermostat, the first electric plug, and the sinking of the Edmund Fitzgerald; the Jargon Challenge Round—trendy technospeak that YOU should know; and Dumbest Moments in Business History—California brings it all on themselves.
Paul Dickerson - Haynes & Boone
John Pacini interviews the head of law firm Haynes & Boone’s clean energy technology practice. Paul, the former COO of the U.S. Department of Energy’s Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy, is expert in all current energy issues. In this interview, he discusses innovation and the needs of energy entrepreneurs, China’s energy growth and where we’re headed in the very near future.
Malcolm Gore - Vector Group Inc.
When Vector International AS, a Norwegian company, made the decision to open an office in the United States, Malcolm Gore was the obvious choice to head the operation. Russ interviews Malcolm Gore, President of Vector Group Inc., a Norwegian-based company that designs and manufactures pipe sealants and pressure containment technology solutions for “aggressive applications and demanding environments” (think, for example, sub-sea, deepwater connectors for the petroleum industry). Yes, they participated in the solution to stop the BP oil spill. It’s a surprisingly entrepreneurial group with a very interesting story.
