School of Business 08/21/10
Russ and John present the show that champions innovation and entrepreneurship, the show about the BusinessMakers. Includes: the BusinessMakers Quote of the Week—pithy brilliance from Albert Einstein; This Week in Business History goes way back to include the eruption of Mount Vesuvius, the creation of potato chips, and the first parachute (which, of course, ultimately led to the creation of the “golden parachute”); the Jargon Challenge Round—trendy technospeak that YOU should know; and Dumbest Moments in Business History—some retired New York City cops want better benefits.
Stuart Page - GloriOil
John Pacini interviews the CEO of GloriOil, an enhanced oil recovery company that uses biotechnology to increase the production of mature fields. The company uses cost-efficient technology to manipulate bacteria already present in the wells to increase recovery by 10-15 percent. Page, who was brought in to help grow the company, talks about the dynamics of bringing investors into the mix.
Flashback - Bill Schrom: Geotrace Technologies Inc.
Russ flashes back to our 2009 interview with Bill Schrom, CEO of Geotrace, a sub-surface imaging company that analyzes clients’ old data to help oil companies recover more oil and gas, often from existing wells. Geotrace’s 300 scientists--including mathematicians, physicists, geologists and geophysicists—help clients reinterpret their data more efficiently to provide better seismic imaging information.
