Interviews By Company: "Future Now, Inc."
Sean Surcouf says we consumers don’t even want to know what happens to land-based farm raised shrimp, and says he is out to shatter the paradigm. As co-founder of Pink Gold Aquaculture, Surcouf grows shrimp that swim in the lush ocean waters of Panama, chemical free and with space to roam in a sustainable shrimp ecosystem. As shrimp boats are traveling farther into the ocean to catch smaller and fewer shrimp, PGA could truly be on the brink of something huge!
Judy Camarena grew up in her father’s authentic Mexican food restaurants. She waited tables, worked in the bakeries, wore whatever hat was needed that day. She begged to learn more about the family business, which today includes 27 franchised taqueria restaurants, five bakeries, two seafood restaurants and one mobile food unit. Russ visits with Judy Camarena, CEO of Arandas Franchises, the parent company of Taqueria Arandas.
Twenty years ago, few women really wanted to start their own business. Leisa Holland-Nelson visits with Pam Lockard, founder and president of 20-year-old marketing agency DMN3.
There’s always something else to discuss about Microsoft Dynamics’ NAV 2013. Russ talks electronic documents with PKF’s Greg Price.
Two great interviews. The BusinessMakers visit with Sean Surcouf, co-founder of Pink Gold Aquaculture, a sustainable shrimp ecosystem in the clear, blue waters of Panama; and Judy Camarena, CEO of Arandas Franchises, parent company of the Taquerias Arandas. In our vignettes, Leisa visits with Pam Lockard of DMN3; Robin interviews Chloe Dao, women’s apparel designer; and Greg Price discusses Microsoft Dynamics’ NAV 2013.
Russ and Leisa host Episode 401 of the show that champions entrepreneurship. It’s a street-level curriculum for those in the trenches. Includes: The BusinessMakers Quote of the Week—a thoughtful truism from French playwright Albert Guinon; This Week in Business History includes the patent filings (filings!) for the telephone, the beginnings of United Parcel Service founded by two teenagers and the launch (eight years ago!) of YouTube; and the Jargon Challenge Round—trendy technospeak that YOU should know.
How do you establish a new brand for an international conglomerate? Research your market! According to Rob Candelino, the advertising industry got it all wrong when they depicted men as bumbling, know-nothing dads. Seventy-three percent of men feel they are inaccurately depicted in the advertising media. Dove Men+Care is working to deal with its male consumers on terms they appreciate. Russ interviews Rob Candelino, vice president of brand building for Unilever, at the Dad2.0 conference.
If you think Waste Management is all about hauling off garbage, you’re making a mistake. They also include ‘environmental services’ and ‘renewable energy’ in their company description. Among their many little-known activities: Waste Management installs gas recovery wells in their landfill sites to harness the methane gas generated by the landfill’s decomposition. The Waste Management operation produces more renewable energy than the entire solar power industry. It’s a fascinating story, and one that you probably did not know. Russ interviews David Unger, Director of Renewable Energy for Waste Management Inc.
