What Is A Podcast?
Have heard the term podcast but aren’t quite sure what is it? Originally developed by former MTV VJ and Internet businessman Adam Curry in 2004, the term “podcast” is a derivative from Apple’s iPod. Using the RSS 2.0 syndication format, podcasts are made available to subscribers just like news feeds.
Think of a podcast as a radio show on demand. Podcasting is not unlike time-shifted video software and devices like TiVo, which let you watch what you want when you want by recording and storing video, except that podcasting is used for audio and is currently free of charge.
A podcast “show” consists of a series of individual episodes that you can listen to when and how you want, whether that is on your PC, your MP3 player or in your favorite web browser.
If you have ever read a blog, podcasting works the same way with one exception. Instead of reading new text content on a PC, you listen to new content using software that knows how to get to the podcast content.
