Episode 89: WebXTRA Nick Lafferty

PinkGator Radio is an online radio station.  The station schedules DJs, gives away prizes and promotes lots of fun.

Nick founded PinkGator Radio in September 2005.  What started as a hobby quickly grew as people became familiar with the name.  In December 2005 PinkGator Radio station had 10 DJ’s and 10-20 listeners a night and in February 2006 grew to 15+ DJ’s and around 30 listeners a night.  That same month PinkGator merged with a competing radio station.  The merger quickly failed due to staffing differences in both stations.   PinkGator reemerged a month later and has grown steadily back to over 15 DJ’s and climbing listener counts.  Nick handles all aspects of the business; he publicizes the station, hires staff, and funds everything from his own pocket and with the help of some sponsors.  His original target listening audience, online video gamers, proved to be unstable, so he switched to a more mature audience that required older DJ’s.  Now the current DJ’s are from all areas of the globe, offering a unique style and genre.  The diversity helps gain a variety of listeners, that wasn’t available before.  In the future Nick’s goal is for PinkGator to be self sustaining.  Nick plans to study Radio Broadcasting and Business in college.

Nick Lafferty works at a local grocery store to fund his amazing radio station. If more American’s were like Nick Lafferty then America would easily become the most industious country on the planet.

I’ve been working with Nick for a while now and I gotta say: this guy is one of the most creative and ingenious businessmen I’ve ever seen. Nick and I sit around for hours at a time shooting ideas off each other, each as unique as the last. Its been amazing DJing for his station, and I hope to continue doing so for a while.

In true radio fashion, I’d like to say the following: Big shoutouts to Nick, Brendan, the rest of the gang, and especially The Business Makers for giving Nick this interview. You all rock; thanks to you PinkGator is going places.

    Great read!

I’ve known Nick for about 5 years now. I first met him when he was an avid listener on my radio station! I’m glad to say that working for Nick and Pink Gator radio has provided a lot of experience for my career in radio broadcasting.

Without Nick Pink Gator radio would not be running today. His leadership skills are very impressive. He can keep the staff in line and also keep us all very enthusiastic about our job! I am very excited to see where we will be going to next!
