Episode 89: WebXTRA Marissa Berenson

Made by Marissa Designs and sells elegant jewelry at affordable prices.

Marissa started her business at the age of 13 as a hobby and a way to make accessories for herself.  She marketed her pieces to local shops and they sold out quickly, much to her surprise.  Her career as an entrepreneur was off and running!  At the age of 14, Marissa obtained a taxpayers ID number so she could purchase supplies at wholesale prices.  She upgraded and expanded the materials to include semi precious stones, sterling silver and gold vermeil.  She sells her products through her web site and at gift shops including the Kimball Art Museum’s gift shop.  For the Kimball she designs pieces to correspond to current exhibits; for example she recently designed Egyptian and Oriental jewelry.  While in high school, Marissa plans to continue working with the organization she founded, the Young Texans Beaders Society, and to teach in the Summerbridge program at Fort Worth Country Day School.  In college, she plans to continue making jewelry and selling to the Kimball.  She will major in business and minor in art and Spanish.
